Rival is looking for an entrepreneurial Commercial Manager to join our team. 

We are one of the fastest-growing marketing consultancy businesses in the US and UK, co-founded by ex-11:FS and VaynerMedia executives. We exist to enable any business to disrupt and change the category they’re in by building the tools, technology and thinking for them to act and grow like a challenger. We work with CMOs at scale-ups like Autobooks, Omnipresent, and Bud and incumbents like Reebok, JP Morgan, and Activision to solve the biggest growth challenges and opportunities they face. 

The core of our business is strategic consulting services, but we have a roadmap of products we are building and launching and are looking for a Commercial Manager to come in and lead sales for our product portfolio - Rival Curo and Rival Academy. You will report directly to our CEO and working closely with our Managing Partners. 

We are a distributed team with teammates and clients currently based across the US, UK, Europe, Middle East, and Asia. You can work from anywhere in the world.

Role

  • You will spend most of your time focused on building and managing a pipeline of deals for our two products - Rival Curo and Rival Academy. 
  • Rival Curo is a SaaS tool that analyzes search activity in a category to help inform how a brand should position itself within it. This is a premium analytics and insights tool that will be sold as a license bundled with advisory and strategic services. 
  • Rival Academy is a one-day training workshop for individuals or teams on the Rival IP and methodology for building challenger brands, GTM strategies, and teams. We host quarterly Academies in London and New York, but also do one-off sessions in other cities (Copenhagen, Dubai, Singapore, etc). 
  • You will also support media sponsorship sales, working with our Executive Producer. 
  • Our target buyer is CMOs and Marketing Directors at scale-ups and incumbent businesses in the US, UK, Europe, Middle East, and SE Asia. 
  • We have independent pipelines for consulting services, Curo, Academy, and Media, but there is a huge opportunity to cross and up-sell across the portfolio. 

Opportunity

  • You will be joining the Rival journey at an exciting time. We only launched the business a year ago and will already be a team of 15 when we finish this hiring sprint. 
  • This role has buckets of opportunity for progression. You would be the first full-time sales person and would be able to craft the role, your targets, and your career path with our CEO. For the right person, we would look to build a team under this position as you and we grow.

Requirements 

We'd like this candidate to have...

  • We do not require a minimum years of experience, but you do need to have experience in sales roles that involved selling tech into large companies 
  • Experience and comfort holding, owning, and delivering an individual revenue target
  • Experience using a CRM, ideally Hubspot
  • Experience with lead-origination, not just conversion
  • Strong organizational skills along with the demonstrated ability to work to a deadline
  • A start up mentality and personality: you're mission driven and not afraid to get stuck in
  • Ability to travel for company events once a year at minimum
  • No university degree required - we value your experience and skills

We would be particularly excited if... 

  • You have sold into CMOs or brand-side senior marketers before 
  • You have experience in a services business (consulting or agency) and/or martech business

Compensation

  • Our compensation philosophy is to pay mid-market base with top-market upside 
  • There are three components to our compensation package for this role
  • Base Salary - pegged to UK average for similar sales roles (to reduce the gender and ethnic pay gap) and adjust based on cost of living for your city
  • Commission - the ability to earn 100%+ of your base with an uncapped commission based on your bookings bookings, paid twice a year 
  • Employee Options -  all employees are eligible for our options scheme after they’ve been with the company for one year 
  • The base salary for this role based in London (or similar cost of living city) is £45,000-£55,000
